We have been awarded with 2 Stars standing for Best Food/Exceptional by HARDEN\'S \"Still not very well-known, this cramped and hidden-away Gallic spot in Clerkenwell was in fact one of the first of the new wave of London bistros to offer exceptional food at reasonable prices.Crệpes (around £6.00 for a big one) are available, but the \'real\' food here is so good and too well-priced to ignore- you might have bavette flambée and frites (£10), for example, followed by chocolate soup with black pepper ice cream (£3.50), with wines from £16.00 a bottle.\"
HARDEN'S GOOD CHEAP EATS GUIDE 2009 IN LONDON
You dream of (but rarely get) places like this in provincial France. The Passage is a tiny finger of a venue with hardly room for 20 diners - though there\'s a few tables outside. Within, furniture is caff-style, but deep orange and white walls, wooden flooring and Gallic paintings give bistro a feel. At the rear is minuscule kitchen, where a clued-up, friendly duo work wonders. There\'s a menu of savoury and sweet crȇpes, and a la carte featuring the likes of bouillabaisse followed by salt-cod with potatoes, egg and hollandaise (₤10), and a list of keenly priced specials. From the latter we were treated to luxuriously thick cream of white asparagus and leek soup (well worth ₤3.50; garnished with parsley and twirl of olive oil), then a (barely) baked salmon fillet with chunky sauteed potatoes and a crisp rocket salad (just ₤6.50). Our only criticism: some bland sliced apples in the otherwise exemplary crȇpe normande (lfambéed with a sizeable slug of calvados) - though we did eat in apple-impoverished July. Attractive dish presentation and a list of Belgian beers, cidres bouchées and interesting wines, juices and teas further heightened our admiration. High-quality brasserie food at caff prices.
TIME OUT London 2009 5 STARS OUT OF 6
09/09/2008 One of the latest additions to the ever-trendy Clerkenwell area, Passage Cafe is a small but cozy bistro/restaurant (\"gem\" is no understatement) which exudes oodles of Parisian charm and is tucked away in an alley just north of St John\'s Square. If you\'re in for lunch, the savoury crepes are simply amazing, while the dinner menu is constantly updated but having been several times, the quality never ceases to impress. For the price (c.20 quid for a splendid 3 course dinner), it\'s truly a bargain! The couple and chef who run the business are an extremely smiley bunch and are happy to tailor menus for intimate parties (again, at extremely reasonable prices). Would definitely recommend for a night out with a close group of friends!

This place is amazing I have just come back from Paris and none of the food was as good as this place and five times the cost. A remarkable find. I have worked in Clerkenwell for five years and I can say it the best hidden gem by far, I eat there at least 3 times a week.
